Me as your therapist.

I have completed 4 years of post-graduate training in psychotherapy and counselling. I am currently working towards becoming a Certified Transactional Analyst (CTA) and achieving full UKCP accreditation. I am registered with the UKCP (trainee psychotherapist register) and abide by the UKCP code of ethics. I am also an accredited member of the National Counselling Society.

I am a qualified and experienced business and personal-life coach.

In my professional past I have worked in human resources, and graduate recruitment assessment and professional development, and qualified as a personal and professional coach for over 10 years.

I have also been a creative entrepreneur setting up and running a retreat centre in the forest in southern France between 2001 and 2012. I have a passion for the environment and have been touched both personally and professionally and in the consulting room by issues of climate anxiety, climate justice and social justice.

My core psychotherapy training is in Relational Transactional Analysis (TA). TA is a theory of communication and psychology which has its roots in psychoanalysis, but was developed in the 60s by Eric Berne to make therapy much more accessible. I draw on humanistic philosophy, some cognitive behavioural intervention and the psychodynamic relational process. I recognise that the quality of the therapeutic relationship, above any one particular theoretical orientation, is the most important aspect of successful therapeutic work.

Thinking, sensing, feeling and intuiting are all given emphasis within the framework of our working relationship.

I have a deep guided personal practice of embodiment and movement which I will bring into our work if this is something you find helpful. Somatic therapeutic approaches can access trauma for which there are no words sometimes, and also leads to a stabilisation and regulation of the nervous system, all very powerful ways to support yourself and release your life-force energy.

All of this helps me understand the complexities of your situation, which includes not only your internal world, but your experiences within the wider family and socio-cultural context. I am an ally of LGBTQ++ people and my practice is grounded in anti-racist and anti-oppressive practice, values and actions. This approach systematically considers your whole person – mind, body and spirit. I also consider the ancestors, generational trauma and stories.

Ask me about working outdoors if this is something you think you would like to try.

I use TA theory extensively in coaching programmes as it is valuable to help think about relationships and is an excellent and accessible theory of personality and communication.
